About 13 years ago, Green Bank Elementary-Middle School started to fundraise for a worthy cause, Pennies for Patients, a campaign which supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Mr. Brown and the Natural Helpers oversee the fundraiser and during the multi-week campaign, the efforts of GBEMS students, faculty, staff, and community members totaled $1,809.83 raised for Pennies for Patients.

During this year’s fundraising event, the class who raised the most money was Mrs. Brown’s 8th-grade class with a total of $350.82. The class raising the second most was Mrs. Baldwin’s 6th-grade class with a total of $253.36. Mr. Morgan’s 7th-grade class came in third with a total of $202.61.  Pennants are awarded to classrooms collecting $100, $200, and $300. This year, GBEMS classrooms earned nine pennants; one gold, three silver, and five bronze.

Pennies for Patients organizer, Mr. Brown, said: “I am very proud of our Green Bank students for their support for helping the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I’m also thankful for the parents for their support for the program.” Mr. Brown would like to give a special thanks to First Citizens Bank and Tonya Jones for their help counting the money with Pennies for Patients.

Pennies for Patients will start again next year so start saving your coins to help find a cure!
